Crowdsourced mapping for open collaboration: A story of Taiwan so far

概要

OpenStreetMap is a collaborative project with millions of people contributing GPS traces and other geospatial data into the making of a global map. The collaborative mapping project is open in the sense that everyone can contribute to OSM and OSM is free for everyone. Inevitably, the spirit of 'all for one and one for all' has been widespread in Taiwan in recent years. Such an open collaboration environment leads to the rapid growth of the OSM Taiwan. Not only the number of mappers but also the volume of data is increased dramatically. This talk is going to make a summary about the development of Taiwan OSM community and the collaboration patterns of Taiwanese mappers. Moreover, OSM has constituted an open paradigm for data collaboration, reuse and sharing. With having the open paradigm, OSM plays an indispensable role in the movement of open data and open government. This talk will also share experiences with audiences about how OSM Taiwan community attempts to collaborate with government in terms of open data. On the other hand, there are more and more open data projects launched by non-government organizations in Taiwan. OSM, thus, offers a crowdsourced approach for the open data projects. It is worth to mention that how OSM Taiwan community works with the open data projects together.
